Hedger/Trimmer Tool from Yardshark
Yardshark tools are made from high-carbon Japanese steel, double-tempered using a pressed steel technology that creates a super-sharp blade that stays sharp longer. The oval handles are aluminum and have a soft elastomer grip for comfort. (Frankly, I don't know what that is but it sounds nice.) This particular tool has a flip-lock mechanism that allows it to extend from 31 to 46 inches so it can be used for hedge trimming, pruning high tree branches up to 3/8", and for trimming the inside of thorny bushes and other tasks. Along with a hand pruner and tree saw, it would make a versatile set of handy tools.

The Garden Bandit
This is the Avantgarden Shop's best-selling tool (clever name) so it must do the job, even though it looks odd. Made of a thin stainless steel loop with a thick plastic paddle handle, the tool allows for weeding next to the base of seedlings without damaging the tender young plants. For some reason they make it in a variety of colors. Cost is $11.95.

The Fid
New from Ultimate Goods is the Swedish weeding and seeding tool, the Fid. Its tapered stainless steel trough gets all the way down to taproots of hard-to-eradicate weeds and in spaces where a fulcrum weeder would damage adjacent plants. It is part of the Good Gear Modular line: Tools that move with you. It's $19.00, has sturdy hardwood handle, and comes with a custom holster with belt loop and clip.

The Weed Shredder
Made of spring steel, the back and forth motion of this tool's teeth actually shred those pesky weeds and also dig into those hard to clean cracks in pavement. Offered by an online store called Brandedone, follow the link to see many unusual and interesting tools. Costs $16.50. I also like the Weed-N-Rake for $17.00–a hoe and rake in one tool with double action blade.

Fulcrum Weeder
Corona's fulcrum weeder priced at $7.93 enables serious weeding with the flick of a wrist. The tines pierce the soil to the roots of the weed, and then when the handle is pushed down, the weed pops out. Great for any gardener, especially one with diminished hand strength.
