Illuminated Glass Globes

 Faqs Faqs R9 C1
Night orbs are handblown soda/lime glass globes that attach by undergound wire to any 12-volt lighting system. Their creator, LaSorgente Glass Studio, says they are "extremely durable, owing to their spherical shape, thick glass, and a 36 hour annealing process...and can withstand run-ins with lawnmowers, weed whackers, children, animals, heat and deep snow." The website is as beautiful as the product, which looks really gorgeous in the photos. Hand-blown glass does not come cheap, however. A single standard 8" orb with 1-2" stem is $395 plus s/h. Also available: water orbs with underwater cable and a movable version with 5" polished granite base.

Water Gardening in a Barrel?

Wlily 5416 4206
Yearning for a real water garden but don't have the space or money to build one? There is hope. You can actually have your own small garden in a half whiskey barrel (sans whiskey, of course, but do set it aside for later use), a bird bath, watering trough, or even small ceramic and plastic pots. The possibilities seem almost endless, and the beauty of this idea is that water gardens in smaller sizes are much more manageable. More affordable, too.

This interesting article by Ann Whitman via the folks at the National Gardening Association is just the kind of how-to information we love to see–clear, concise, with plenty of detail and easy-to-follow instructions. Let us know if you try this. It sure sounds fun.
